The Department of Geology offers,, and degrees; also available is a bachelor degree with a teaching major in earth sciences. All degree programs in the department involve field work and a combination of applied and theoretical approaches requiring sound general background in other sciences.

All Earth Science and Geology majors must contact the Undergraduate Advisor prior to the first semester in residence. The Geological Sciences Department participates in the Southern California Marine Institute for marine geology, oceanography, and seismic studies. Although primarily undergraduate in nature, the Department of Geology and Environmental Geosciences also provides graduate level courses, and participates in the Master of Science in Environmental Studies program and the in Science and Mathematics wherein students can earn graduate degrees.
